The older I am growing, the more I find myself thinking of the things that are eternal. Some of the things that once occupied my time and my attention have now become obsolete or irrelevant as I am more and more captured by the things that are deeper and will last forever.

It was C.S. Lewis who said, “All that is not eternal is eternally out of date.”
Richard Foster in his book, Celebration of Discipline, gives helpful perspective regarding the culture of the world in which we live that is in conflict with a culture that is deep and eternal. He writes, “Superficiality is the curse of our age.

One of the qualities I have been consciously working on in recent times is that of being someone whose life is characterised by bringing something to the table. In short, it is someone who adds value to the world in which they live wherever they go.
Recently, I initiated a conversation with the lady who serves me at my favourite Subway store and in the process, I learned that she had been working there for 21 years. “…. I consider my life worth nothing to me; MY ONLY AIM IS TO FINISH THE RACE and COMPLETE THE TASK the Lord Jesus has given me.” Acts 20:24
Unlike leaders today where it is reported that only one in three finish well, the Apostle Paul was prepared to complete the task the Lord had given him even though “the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardship are facing me.” Retirement never was an option for him. And neither it should be for us.
So why should we finish well?
