WORDS THAT HAVE SHAPED MY LIFE (89) “WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE FOR?”

Rod Denton Induction at Elizabeth Church of Christ_2012

Eric Liddell was an Olympic runner whose story was told in the Oscar winning film, Chariots of Fire. Liddell who later became a missionary in China once said, “God has made me for a purpose, for China. But He also made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure.”
Eric Liddell knew what on earth he was here for and also his God-given strength to fulfill that purpose. How sad it is for a person to go through life not knowing that they had been created for a purpose and not being able to fulfill that purpose over the course of their lifetime with the gifts God has …

WORDS THAT HAVE SHAPED MY LIFE 86 “THE GOLDEN RULE……what did Jesus really mean?”

Rod Denton Induction at Elizabeth Church of Christ_2012Jesus said, “So in everything do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”   Matthew 7:12
There was a time where I understood the Golden Rule to be a rule of reciprocity, where I would do exactly to others what I wanted them to do to me. And yet Jesus’ calling to us is that we are to learn to live like Him. He said to His disciples, “As the Father sent me, so I am sending you.”  John 20:21  As I grew to understand this calling, the words of a Salvation Army song took on a deeper meaning for me :

“To be like Jesus, this hope possesses me,
In every thought
