A good friend of mine recently asked me a thoughtful question as we were discussing life in our senior years. He asked me, “Would you live your life any differently now you are in your senior years?”
I didn’t take long to reply that I wouldn’t be living my life any differently than I am now.
As I reflected on our brief conversation, the following scriptures that have guided my life and my destiny came to me. I have a God given destiny from the day I was born:
- I was born with a God given PURPOSE
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10) - I was bought with a high PRICE
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honour God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) - I am looking forward to an eternal PRIZE
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore, I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.”
(1 Corinthians 9:24-27)
These three compelling reasons are why I said to my friend that in my senior years there is nothing I would change about the way I am living my life. Even before my birth, I had a unique God given destiny marked out especially for me.
How would you answer my friend’s question?
